According to a study published in the European Journal of Preventive Cardiology, morning exercise lowers the risk of heart disease and stroke. The study showed that the results of morning activity were more pronounced in women, along with both early birds and night owls, regardless of the total daily activity.

Data for over 86,000 adults between the ages of 42 and 72 who were free of cardiovascular disease at the start of the study were collected. The findings of the study showed that 2,911 participants developed coronary artery disease and 796 had a stroke over the course of 6–8 years.

When the peak activity times were compared over 24 hours, activity between the hours of 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. was associated with the lowest risk of both heart disease and stroke. In the second part of the study, the researchers divided participants into four groups based on peak physical activity times, such as midday, early morning (8 a.m.), late morning (10 a.m.), and evening (7 p.m.).

The findings of the second part of the study showed that the participants who were most active in the early or late morning had 11% and 16% lower risks of incident coronary artery disease, respectively.
